Recently I was surfing the net through different finance blogs and websites and I came across an article that made me laugh a little bit and turned me off of listening to personal finance gurus. The article was about how you could make your own hamburgers at home that were just like the ones at a restaurant to save a few pennies. I understand that people should definitely learn healthy spending habits, but where is the line between sound financial wisdom and being a cheap bastard?

In my research of the legal profession I found out some things about myself and about the legal profession that changed my trajectory. The first is that I encountered a fair share of assholes and I decided that if I was going to work 80 hours a week for a top law firm I did not want to be surrounded by arrogant jerks. The second is that I did not love the legal profession, I loved the idea of the salaries that accompanied positions in top law firms. (Side note: I am sure not all lawyers are assholes, my sample of lawyers just happened to contain a large proportion of them)

Don’t get me wrong, becoming a doctor or a lawyer is great, but there are so many other ways to become rich that nobody should subject themselves to that much school and student debt to do something that they don’t absolutely love. Unless you really love law or medicine, there are so many better ways to get money
